Alex Broadhurst is an artist and designer living in San Francisco, California. His paintings are abstractions that explore the interaction of color and geometric shape, often experimenting with visual tension, balance, rhythm, and visual identity. Paint is applied by hand in a precise process to emulate the characteristics of a print in a continuous effort to remove evidence of the human hand in the painting.

Alex’s practice in modernist graphic design helps inform his art. He is inspired by 20th Century graphic designers including Max Bill, Paul Rand and Wim Crouwel.

After studying design at the University of Leeds in England, Alex worked in London where he created designs awarded and exhibited by creative organizations including D&AD, The Design Museum, Creative Review and the International Society of Typographic Design.

In 2013 he moved to California where he is currently Creative Director at Apple. Today he lives and paints in San Francisco with his wife and daughters.
