Alex Broadhurst is a British artist and designer living in San Francisco, California. His paintings are abstractions that explore the interaction of color and geometric shape, often experimenting with visual tension and balance. His work is created with a geometric precision, only to reveal a hand-painted edge on closer view. A common shape in many paintings is that of a pill, sometimes multiple pill-shapes.
Alex’s background in modernist graphic design informs his art. He is inspired by renowned 20th century graphic designers including Max Bill, Paul Rand and Wim Crouwel.
After studying Graphic Design at the University of Leeds in the North of England, Alex worked in London where he created designs awarded and exhibited by creative organizations including D&AD, The Design Museum, Creative Review and International Society of Typographic Design.
In 2013 he moved to California to design at Apple. Today he lives and paints in San Francisco.
